A few days ago I heard a rumor that Capcom had outsourced the fifth Devil May Cry game to Ninja theory, to get a more western feel, and it would be anounced at the tokyo game show. Well it was, and the changes are. . . shocking.

DMC seems to have a wacky timeline, the first took place after dante had established his demon business, 2 took place way in the future, DMC 3 was a prequel, 4 was a sequel to 1 but took place before two. I suppose five is either a reboot or a pre-prequel.

Let's get the negative impressions out of the way first.
Yes Dante's new character design looks weird, to say the least. The gothic elements from the game are gone,(Unless you count those bats), and they seem to be ditching the loveable wisecracking, cocky bastard that is dante for a gritty reboot.

There is some positive though, first if you get past Dante's character design the trailer is badass. Dante is kicking ass and taking names with the same efficiency as ever. Also the last time Capcom went off the beaten path of one of their established franchises (Resident Evil 4), it worked out excellent for all involved.

So let's not write off the sequel just yet.
